The Pender Pendragons will be taking part in a tournament against the West Point-Beemer Cadets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pender is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Pender is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Wakefield 67-43 on Tuesday. The Pendragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 20 points or more this season.
Zander Welsh was his usual excellent self, shooting 50% from the field to rack up 20 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Krueger, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 10 points and eight rebounds.
Pender was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, West Point-Beemer strolled past Humphrey-Lindsay with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 56-39. The Cadets haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Pender better keep an eye on Peyton Penrose. He was instrumental in West Point-Beemer's win, dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. That's the most points Penrose has posted since back in December of 2025. Riley Kaup also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.
Pender's record is now 16-3. As for West Point-Beemer, their record now sits at 14-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pender has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like West Point-Beemer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Pender was able to grind out a solid win over West Point-Beemer when the teams last played back in December of 2019, winning 62-55. Will the Pendragons repeat their success, or do the Cadets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
