Elkhorn South and Creighton Prep are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Storm will take on the Junior Jays in a tournament on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Elkhorn South took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They blew past Buena Vista 13-2. That looming 13-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Storm yet this season.

Casey Driver looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Elkhorn South is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Elkhorn South got a big performance out of Kaleb Peters, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Tyler Lofdahl was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Elkhorn South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Creighton Prep). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Omaha Northwest a 24-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Junior Jays, who have now won five games in a row.
Jack Cosgrove looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Logan Burchfiel was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Smithberg, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Creighton Prep pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Elkhorn South, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Elkhorn South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Creighton Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Elkhorn South was able to grind out a solid victory over Creighton Prep in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-4. Do the Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Junior Jays turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
