It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Le Grand Bulldogs can now relate to. They were dealt a 49-14 defeat at the hands of Orestimba on Friday. Le Grand's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Le Grand still got an impressive performance from Alexis Granados, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
It was another big night for Juan Esquivez, who rushed for 460 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 17.0 yards per carry. Esquivez hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for seven straight games.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Le Grand to a paltry 226 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Orestimba's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. Esquivez was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Le Grand's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Orestimba, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Le Grand does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Orestimba will square off against Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ripon Christian's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
