Mountain Ridge is 1-9 against Fort Hill since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Mountain Ridge Miners will take on the Fort Hill Sentinels at 12:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mountain Ridge comes in on six and Fort Hill on 20.
Mountain Ridge extended their postseason success on Friday against Perryville. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 40-14 victory. Considering Mountain Ridge has won eight contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Frost, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Will Patterson was another key contributor, throwing for 112 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Fort Hill's offense rose to the challenge against a Vikings defense that boasted an average of only 11.85 points allowed. Fort Hill took down Cambridge-South Dorchester 38-20 on Friday. Given Fort Hill's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Cambridge-South Dorchester is ranked 107th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jabril Daniels continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 107 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Spencer, who gained 121 total yards.
Another reason for the win was Fort Hill's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Cambridge-South Dorchester's QB won't forget Carter Hess anytime soon given Hess sacked him twice.
Mountain Ridge's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Fort Hill, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Mountain Ridge has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 196.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fort Hill struggles in that department as they've been even better at 329.3 per game. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches. Mountain Ridge might still be hurting after the 37-14 loss they got from Fort Hill in their previous matchup back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fort Hill's Daniels, who rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Now that Mountain Ridge knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
