5A Region III District 17 recap October 22, 2013
Mason Roberts of Cy-Woods ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region III District 17 this season against Cypress Ranch last week. Roberts scampered for 82 yards on the play and finished with 110 on the day as his team bested the Mustangs.
Cy-Ridge extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Cypress Creek, 24-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Rams.
Nick Hooper provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Cy-Woods defeated Cypress Ranch. He completed 8 passes for 156 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 113 yards. Hooper's key target this week was Samuel Stewart, who caught 5 passes for 103 yards.
ANTHONY WILLIAMS was a beast in the backfield as Cy-Ridge defeated the Cougars.
Stewart was the best wideout in the league this week as Trent Faith's team beat Gene Johnson's team. Stewart racked up 5 receptions for 103 yards. Roberts helped Cy-Woods' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 49 yards.
The Wildcats' Hooper and Roberts led 5A Region III District 17 in both passing and receiving yards. Hooper has thrown for 1,130 yards this season, while Roberts has 23 catches for 420 yards. Jersey Village's Lavance Moore leads the league in rushing yards with 721.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Cy-Fair takes on the Mustangs. As it stands, the Bobcats are in first, while Cypress Ranch is in eighth.
Cy-Woods scaled the state rankings by moving to 133 from 179 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to move up by topping the Mustangs 54-0.
