Brynlee Alford made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Marigrace Jones was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Caralina Tidwell, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Horseshoe Bend was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in three consecutive contests.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Reeltown and Valley meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Rebels fell just short of the Rams by a score of 8-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost three in a row.
Crisdan Dunn was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dunn was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Reeltown got a massive performance out of Kira Chappell, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that Chappell hit this season. Paisley Burdette was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run.
Horseshoe Bend pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Reeltown, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Horseshoe Bend skirted past Reeltown 2-1 when the teams last played on Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Generals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
