The Rio Mesa Spartans will face off against the Dos Pueblos Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Mesa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
If Rio Mesa beats Dos Pueblos with six runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Spartans came out on top against Buena by a score of 6-1 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Analia Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jocelyn Gomez, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Rihyana Alvarez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Dos Pueblos fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Saugus on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Centurions by a score of 5-3. The Chargers' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Juliana Brunner spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Zella Cassidy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.
Dos Pueblos' loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Rio Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
Dos Pueblos' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Rio Mesa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dos Pueblos, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Rio Mesa keep running through batters, or will the Chargers buck the trend?
Rio Mesa couldn't quite finish off Dos Pueblos in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
