The Carlsbad Lancers will be playing in front of their home fans against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carlsbad will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Last Friday, Carlsbad was able to grind out a solid win over Torrey Pines, taking the game 17-7.
Carlsbad's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julian Sayin, who rushed for two yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 229 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Walsh, who gained 144 total yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Torrey Pines to a paltry 190 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Carlsbad's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jude McLellan and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon came up short against Mission Hills on Friday and fell 28-21. That's two games in a row now that La Costa Canyon has lost by exactly seven points.
Carlsbad's victory bumped their season record to 8-0 while La Costa Canyon's loss dropped theirs to 5-3.
Everything came up roses for Carlsbad against La Costa Canyon when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 35-0 victory. Does Carlsbad have another victory up their sleeve, or will La Costa Canyon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
