Haddam-Killingworth was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in Pequot - Sassacus. The Cougars beat Morgan 20-7 earlier in the week.
Hyde Leadership extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Old Saybrook-Westbrook, 45-8. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
North Branford's dynamic duo of Brandan Basil and Joe Delucia proved tough for Cromwell to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Basil threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns and Delucia had 98 yards receiving. Alex McGuigan helped North Branford's passing attack out by catching three balls for 79 yards.
Ezekiel Nixon was the most productive running back in the league this week. In seven carries, he ran for 174 yards as Hyde Leadership bested the Panthers. Akeem Berry also contributed to the rushing game with 113 yards on the ground.
North Branford's Basil and Chris Caron have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Pequot - Sassacus in both passing and receiving yards. Basil has thrown for 1636 yards this season, while Caron, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 28 catches for 680 yards. Derrick Villard from Cromwell leads the league in rushing with 979 yards.
Chris Eckert's team's Villard is a mere 21 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Coginchaug Regional takes on Mark Basil's team. As it stands, the Blue Devils are in seventh, while the Thunderbirds are in first.
North Branford made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,437 from 4,563. The advance stemmed from a 42-7 victory over the Panthers last week.
