The West Geauga Wolverines will face off against the Geneva Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Geauga is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, West Geauga made easy work of Kenston and carried off a 14-5 victory. Considering the Wolverines have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lely Percassi made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Percassi was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, West Geauga got a massive performance out of Michaela Platt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave Platt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dayana Malone, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
West Geauga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Geneva had just enough and edged out Madison 3-1 on Wednesday.
Annabelle Bragg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Geneva saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Markijohn, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
West Geauga is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Geneva, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Geauga hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Geneva struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went West Geauga's way against Geneva in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as West Geauga made off with a 13-4 win. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
