The High Point Christian Academy Cougars will take on the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. High Point Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, High Point Christian Academy needed a bit of extra time to put away Cape Fear Christian Academy. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Paisley Dixon spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Blakely Bowman and Landyn Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Bowman went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Smith went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Smith has hit this season. Hailey Allred was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
East Wake Academy hit Wake Christian Academy with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs lost 12-5 to the Eagles.
Claire Chandler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
High Point Christian Academy's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Wake Christian Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
High Point Christian Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wake Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will High Point Christian Academy continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went High Point Christian Academy's way against Wake Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as High Point Christian Academy made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
