The Okeechobee Brahmans gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Tradition Prep with a sharp 53-33 victory. Given Okeechobee's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Tradition Prep is ranked 458th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Okeechobee was led to victory by John White iii and Oliver Saunders. White iii scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals, while Saunders dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaynayah Phillips, who scored 11 points.
Tradition Prep's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aydan Fields, who scored 11 points. Another player making a difference was Handy Petion, who scored 10 points.
Okeechobee's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Tradition Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Okeechobee will be playing at home against DeSoto County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully DeSoto County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Tuesday. As for Tradition Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Edward's at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Allowing an average of 68 points per game, St. Edward's has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this matchup.
