East Central is 9-1 against Greensburg since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Pirates at 5:30 p.m. East Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
East Central will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Richmond on Saturday. The Trojans came out on top against the Red Devils by a score of 10-7.
Chase Marsh made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Marsh was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ben Bond was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Brent Merk, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
East Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Greensburg waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Knights. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by just one run.
Like East Central, Greensburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Ethan Smith. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Cy Miller was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
East Central is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Greensburg, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Both East Central and Greensburg just can't seem to miss. The Trojans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Greensburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Greensburg in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
