Football Recap: Barbe Comes Up Short

Barbe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 49-42 to the Acadiana Rams. The Buccaneers lost against the Rams in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 48-7 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Barbe lost, don't look at Jelandon Gray. Despite the final result, he rushed for 153 yards on only 14 carries, and also threw for 196 yards and a pair of TDs on only 18 passes. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 81 yards. Barbe also got a significant boost from Landon Kirklin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.

Barbe's record now sits at 1-5. As for Acadiana, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Barbe will welcome New Iberia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers will be up against the Yellowjackets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 47.67 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Acadiana, they will host Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.17 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
