Battle Mountain (Nev.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 12 points, drop to three before the final whistle blew on a 12-9 victory over
Yerington (Nev.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Daniel Itza to
Jesse Jones in the second quarter, the Longhorns led 6-0 at the half.
Tylor Thomas made a difference for the Lions. The junior tight end caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to eight on the year.
Itza stood out for Battle Mountain in the win. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Yerington's lone touchdown came on a 25-yard pass from
Jeremy Foli to Thomas in the fourth quarter.
BM came in allowing an average of 23.1 points per game this season. The Longhorns held firm on the defensive front, and kept YHS well below the 38.2 points it had been averaging per game.
A 13-0 Battle Mountain victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Yerington, which notched a 8-7 victory over Silver State Academy/ROP in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Lions' 2-game winning streak.
