The Hondo Valley Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Gateway Christian Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Gateway Christian took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Hondo Valley, who comes in off a win.
Hondo Valley took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday (and then some). They breezed by Lake Arthur at home to the tune of 58-23.
Meanwhile, Gateway Christian was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 42-41 to Tatum. Gateway Christian has struggled against Tatum recently, as their game on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Gateway Christian had strong showings from Victor Oaxaca, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, and Grady Munson, who scored 16 points along with 9 steals and 5 rebounds.
Hondo Valley's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Gateway Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Hondo Valley ended up a good deal behind Gateway Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2022, losing 47-33. Can Hondo Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
