The Northern Valley Huskies's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Weskan Coyotes at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Northern Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
Last Friday, Northern Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-41 to Wheatland-Grinnell.
Northern Valley's defeat came about despite a quality game from Austyn Cox, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cox is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Baird, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Weskan suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Wheatland-Grinnell on the road and fell 65-26. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Weskan in their matchups with Wheatland-Grinnell: they've now lost eight in a row.
Northern Valley's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-8. As for Weskan, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-8.
Northern Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Weskan when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 39-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northern Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
