After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Port, the Lecanto Panthers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They snuck past Weeki Wachee with a 40-34 victory. This was payback for Lecanto, who suffered a 52-34 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lecanto to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bryleigh Florio, who scored 18 points. The contest was Florio's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ijyana Edwards, who scored 13 points.
Weeki Wachee's loss came despite strong showings from Paige Atwater and Joelys Rodriguez. Atwater scored 14 points along with three steals, while Rodriguez scored nine points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Schumacher, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Lecanto's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Weeki Wachee, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lecanto will take on Hernando at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Weeki Wachee won't have much time to rest: their next match is against The Villages Charter at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. The Villages Charter has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
