The Lutheran Mustangs lost against the Crystal City Javelinas back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Lutheran lost to Crystal City on the road by a decisive 67-48 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lutheran in their matchups with Crystal City: they've now lost four in a row.
Crystal City was led to victory by Eli Mata and Christopher Mena. Mata dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Mena scored 24 points along with six assists and three steals. The game was Mena's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Rousseau, who scored eight points.
Lutheran has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Crystal City, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-8.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing San Marcos HomeSchool the next time they take the court. Crystal City will head out to face San Marcos HomeSchool at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, while Lutheran will head out to face them at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
