The Academy Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 92-48 loss at the hands of Kent Denver. The Academy has not had much luck with Kent Denver recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The Academy's loss came despite strong showings from CJ Hernandez and Trey Boychuk. Hernandez scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while Boychuk scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season.
Even though they lost, The Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 18 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Kent Denver found their leader in underclassman Caleb Fay, who scored 32 points along with four steals. Fay is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Padalino, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
The Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Kent Denver, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Academy will take on Jefferson Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Academy is on a three-game streak of home losses, Jefferson Academy a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Kent Denver will take on Eagle Ridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Kent Denver's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
