Basketball Recap: Elijah Woodle Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Oak Grove

Asheboro proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 36) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged the Oak Grove Grizzlies out 48-46. This was a revenge game for the Blue Comets: when they faced off against the Grizzlies on January 7th, they had to take a 59-48 defeat.

Asheboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elijah Woodle led the charge by going 8 for 15 on his way to 21 points and five assists. Those 21 points gave Woodle a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Osiris Rodriguez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Loss or not, Oak Grove got some senior leadership from Loucas Shoaf and Max Hurt. Shoaf went 9 of 17 en route to 23 points and seven rebounds, while Hurt posted 15 points. Shoaf is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.

Asheboro's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Oak Grove, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4.

Asheboro will square off against Central Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Asheboro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season. Oak Grove has already played their next matchup, a 72-70 loss against Ledford on the 29th.
