After flying high against the Greeley West Spartans last Wednesday, the Greeley Central Wildcats came back down to earth. Greeley Central received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 66-50 to Silver Creek. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greeley Central in their matchups with Silver Creek: they've now lost eight in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Greeley Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Martin Mendoza. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Abdirahman Dahir, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Silver Creek to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Schmeeckle, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Zander Storz, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Greeley Central dropped their record down to 6-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Silver Creek, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Greeley Central will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Centaurus at 5:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Centaurus is ranked 163rd, while Greeley Central is ranked 167th). As for Silver Creek, they will head out on the road to face off against Longmont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Longmont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
