Gross Catholic is a perfect 4-0 against Omaha North since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Vikings. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gross Catholic 3.8, Omaha North 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gross Catholic is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lincoln Christian just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 7-3 to the Crusaders.
Drew Powers made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddux Villamonte, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Omaha North). They never let Buena Vista get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Colin Kinman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Kinman was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Max Bolouvi was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jacob Markham was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Omaha North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena Vista only managed three hits.
Omaha North is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Gross Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gross Catholic has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Omaha North struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gross Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Omaha North in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
