The Enfield Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Ellington Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Enfield barely beat Middletown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles put the hurt on the Blue Dragons with a sharp 11-5 win on Thursday. The Eagles have beaten the Blue Dragons the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blue Dragons has come to flipping the script.
Payten Stebbins made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Stebbins was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Paige Valintakonis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Hailey Anderson, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Ellington strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Simsbury a 7-0 shutout. Give the Knights' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Simsbury's batters probably weren't too happy with Camryn Fisher, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Fisher has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madison Havener, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Havener, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Ellington's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Enfield, their record is now 2-0.
Enfield couldn't quite get it done against Ellington in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
