The Munford Cougars will face off against Memphis Home Education Association at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Munford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Munford is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Crockett County on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 4-2.
Stephen Kemp was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed over his last four contests.
On the hitting side, Munford saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Curly Lowry, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Memphis Home Education Association can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against LKY by a score of 9-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
The team relied heavily on Easton Eskridge, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Long, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Memphis Home Education Association always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Munford has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for Memphis Home Education Association, the victory got them back to even at 9-9-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Munford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Memphis Home Education Association struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Munford took their win against Memphis Home Education Association in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will Memphis Home Education Association turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
