The South Iredell Vikings suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Wednesday. They suffered a tough 60-39 loss at the hands of Hickory Ridge. South Iredell has not had much luck with Hickory Ridge recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Defeat or not, South Iredell got some senior leadership from Daria Fink who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and Kayden Johnson who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Johnson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games.
Hickory Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ma-kaela Gidney led the charge by scoring 22 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gidney has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sheree Gidney, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
South Iredell's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-10. As for Hickory Ridge, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
South Iredell will be playing in front of their home fans against A.L. Brown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully A.L. Brown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday. As for Hickory Ridge, they will head out on the road to take on Cox Mill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
