Chester has gone a perfect 10-0 against Zavalla recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Yellowjackets will square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Chester is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Chester will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Brookeland, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Yellowjackets had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellowjackets have posted since March 1, 2025.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Zavalla made sure to put some runs up on the board against Slocum on Tuesday. The Eagles blew past the Mustangs 10-3. Considering the Eagles have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Maverick Renfro and Cason Warner were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Renfro pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Warner didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. At bat, Renfro got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, while Warner went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Zavalla is 5-2 when Renfro posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Hodge, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.
Chester's record is now 11-4. As for Zavalla, their record now sits at 11-12.
Everything went Chester's way against Zavalla when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Chester made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
