The Grandview Wolves will square off against the Cherokee Trail Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Grandview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Cherokee Trail will be up against a hot Grandview squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Wolves came out on top against Eaglecrest by a score of 6-2 on Thursday.
Seth Mittleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jackson Bernosky was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Schimberg, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Grandview lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cherokee Trail). They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Arapahoe 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since March 17th.
Jayden Vega looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braden Anderson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Nicholas Bugal was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
The win got Grandview back to even at 6-6. As for Cherokee Trail, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
Grandview's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Wolves have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Cherokee Trail, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Grandview continue to outrun the ball?
Grandview skirted past Cherokee Trail 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
