Chico has gone a perfect 10-0 against Shasta recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Wolves at 2:00 p.m. Chico will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Saturday. Chico was the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over University Prep.
Leah Cawthon was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Camile Murphy and Maddie Nadeau did most of the damage at the plate: Murphy went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Nadeau went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Nadeau has posted since back in February. Liani Linares was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Chico hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shasta). They put the hurt on Enterprise with a sharp 14-6 win on Friday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Haley Salkeld, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Sheala Buelna also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Shasta's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Chico, their record now sits at 15-5.
Shasta's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Chico has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Shasta, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 strikeouts. Will Chico keep running through batters, or will the Wolves buck the trend?
Everything went Chico's way against Shasta when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Chico made off with a 15-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
