Softball Recap: Mentor Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Mentor entered their tilt with Cleveland Heights on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 19-0 shutout. Considering the Cardinals have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maggie Haydu made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Chy Harville was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two triples, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Maddie Toledo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Mentor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matches.

Mentor's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cleveland Heights, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mentor will head out to take on Chardon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hilltoppers have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Cleveland Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against Brush at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Arcs have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight contests.
