Del Oro (Loomis, Calif.) saw its 27-point lead dwindle to 10, but still managed to hang on and defeat
Nevada Union (Grass Valley, Calif.) 45-35 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Mark Leveron in the first quarter, the Golden Eagles led 42-15 at the half.
Del Oro saw its 27-point halftime lead fall to 13 entering the fourth.
Kyle Cota made a difference for the Miners. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
DO's most effective player was
Brandon Monroe. The senior running back ran for one touchdown, caught two touchdowns and kicked one extra point. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Loomis school came away with a 35-31 victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for the Golden Eagles, which lost to Granite Bay last week, 21-7. The defeat comes as a step back for Nevada Union, which notched a 52-19 victory over Roseville in its previous outing. The loss snapped Nevada Union's 2-game winning streak.
Del Oro (4-5) goes up against Rocklin in a Sierra Foothill game matchup next week, while Nevada Union (5-4) locks horns with Granite Bay also in a Sierra Foothill game.
