The Loyola Academy Ramblers put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their undefeated season alive. They skirted past Chicago Mt. Carmel 23-21. This was payback for Loyola Academy, who suffered a 42-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Loyola Academy can attribute much of their success to Ryan Fitzgerald, who rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 217 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Drew MacPherson, who gained 164 total yards.
Loyola Academy's win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.0 points per game. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, their loss ended a 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Loyola Academy's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Plainfield North at 12:00 p.m. on October 28th. Plainfield North comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against St. Rita at 7:00 p.m.
