Video: Placer duo presented award
Watch quarterback-receiver combination make 'winning connection.'
Over a four-week span during the 2019 season, MaxPreps teamed with Suddenlink by Altice to spotlight exciting plays and connections from high school football.
Every week fans voted on five different plays throughout 16 different states. The final four finalists came from Arizona, California and Louisiana.
Martin and Sam received their award during an assembly this week at Placer High School among teammates and peers.
"Martin connected with Sam on the play and started the 2019 Homecoming game off with a bang,” Placer head coach Joey Montana said. “After a great fake from Haswell to jet back Jesse Whigam it was enough to get the entire defense playing downhill to the run and Martin let it fly. After seeing the ball was a little off-center, Sam made a circus level catch and then maintained his balance for a tremendous play. They have been
a great tandem all season."
MaxPreps President and Founder Andy Beal congratulated Haswell and Bender and said: "Great quarterback and receiver combinations are a result of hard practice, great vision, time and skill. Our 'Winning Connection' duo have demonstrated those characteristics throughout the season."
Said Altice USA Regional Vice President Michael Horton: "Every day at Altice USA we connect our customers to the information and content they love, so we know a lot about the importance of connectivity. "We're proud to partner with MaxPreps to provide high school athletes an opportunity to be recognized for excellent teamwork.
"Congratulations to Martin and Sam for earning the MaxPreps Winning Connection award."
