With a playoff game on the line, the Columbia Wildcats rose to the challenge on Friday. They strolled past Morton with points to spare, taking the game 43-28. The win was just business as usual for Columbia, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
When it comes to explaining why Morton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zach Ealy. Despite the final result, he threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Caleb Johnson was another key contributor, picking up 125 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Columbia's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.0 points per game. As for Morton, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Columbia will square off against Greene County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greene County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Columbia is ranked 22nd). Morton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
