Baseball Recap: Cyprus' Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Cyprus dropped their record down to 19-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Taylorsville Warriors by a score of 9-8. Pirates fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Warriors since on Friday.

Cody Densley put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Rene Hidalgo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Brody Densley, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

As for Taylorsville, their record now sits at 8-14. The game was the first time they have beaten Cyprus on their field since April 15, 2022.

On Taylorsville's side, Alexander Mauger looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mauger is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Taylorsville's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Logan Bertagnolli, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. That's the most triples Bertagnolli has posted since back in April of 2024.

Cyprus does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Taylorsville, they will square off against Granger at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors are facing the Lancers at the right time seeing as the Lancers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
