Plainfield East had taken Plainfield Central down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Bengals fell 8-5 to the Wildcats.
Corinne Garmon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Plzak, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Downers Grove South fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Leyden on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3. The Mustangs' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Morgan Hahn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Jacklyn Meyers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Downers Grove South's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Plainfield East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-11 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Plainfield East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Downers Grove South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Plainfield East came up short against Downers Grove South in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, falling 7-4. Can the Bengals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
