Greene Central extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 8-8. They lost 13-3 to the Ayden - Grifton Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 on Tuesday.
Sam Martinez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. That double was her first of the season. Shelby McKeel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Ayden - Grifton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Ayden - Grifton, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
On Ayden - Grifton's side, Leah Fields made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Fields has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aaliyah Williams was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Taylor Bunch, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Greene Central is taking a road trip to challenge Farmville Central at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Jaguars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ayden - Grifton, they will host Tarboro at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
