Pine Grove is 2-8 against Pottsville since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Pine Grove Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pottsville Crimson Tide at 7:00 p.m.
Pine Grove kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. The matchup between Pine Grove and Tri-Valley wasn't particularly close, with Pine Grove falling 54-39.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Pottsville beat Eastern Lebanon County 50-45 on Tuesday.
Pottsville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Alvarez, who scored 19 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Alvarez has scored at least 25% of Pottsville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Letrel Montone, who scored 12 points.
Pine Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Pottsville, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Pine Grove didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Pottsville when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 47-41 victory. Will Pine Grove repeat their success, or does Pottsville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
