The Southmont Mounties extended their postseason success on Friday against the Linton-Stockton Miners. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-34 win over the Miners. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Wyatt Woodall got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Woodall was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Kyler Mccandless did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 84 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground.
Linton-Stockton's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jesse Voigtschild, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and also caught a touchdown. Paul Oliver was another key contributor, rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Linton-Stockton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Corey Andrews and his two sacks.
The win (which was Southmont's third in a row) raised their record to 7-5. Even more impressive is the teams they beat to make that streak: Linton-Stockton, Cascade, and Sullivan. As for Linton-Stockton, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2.
Southmont will take on Eastern Hancock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Eastern Hancock is ranked 125th, while Southmont is ranked 111th). Linton-Stockton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
