Fort Kent has gone a perfect 4-0 against Southern Aroostook recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. Fort Kent will square off against Southern Aroostook at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Fort Kent's win against Wisdom wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors won by a run and slipped past the Pioneers 9-8. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Dominic Cyr was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Taggett, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Tobias Naranja also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Fort Kent hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wisdom struck out 13 times.
Southern Aroostook let Washburn stack seven runs on them in the first inning on Wednesday but luckily Southern Aroostook prevailed anyway. The Warriors walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Beavers. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Beavers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Southern Aroostook got a massive performance out of Trafton Russell, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Dillan Bishop was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases and two runs.
The victory got Fort Kent back to even at 2-2. As for Southern Aroostook, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Kent has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southern Aroostook struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Fort Kent's way against Southern Aroostook when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Fort Kent made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fort Kent since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
