Basketball Game Preview: Clinton School vs. Academy of American Studies Eagles

Clinton School just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Academy of American Studies Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Clinton School: 29.6, Academy of American Studies: 22.1) so any points scored will be well earned.

Clinton School's usually-dominant defense will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Hunter College offense got past them. Clinton School fell 58-45 to Hunter College on Thursday.

Despite the defeat, Clinton School got top-tier performance from Kate Stanley, who posted 25 points. The matchup was Stanley's third in a row with at least ten points. Alessandra Stotz was another key player, putting up six points and 17 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Clinton School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 16 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Academy of American Studies put another one in the bag last Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Bryant with points to spare, taking the game 47-32. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Owls are ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Academy of American Studies pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Clinton School, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Clinton School skirted past Academy of American Studies 36-34 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clinton School since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
