Eldorado is 8-2 against Cibola since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Golden Eagles will host the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Eldorado not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 7, 2025 (when they won 21-2). Everything went their way against Los Alamos as they made off with a 20-4 victory.
Eldorado let Sebastian Mestas and Eric Yturbe run wild. Mestas went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Yturbe got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Sullivan Wilson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and one RBI.
Eldorado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Los Alamos only posted an OBP of .409.
Meanwhile, Cibola hadn't done well against Sandia recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cougars came out on top against the Matadors by a score of 14-11. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Beau Segotta made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aidan De La O, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Kean, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Cibola's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Eldorado, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0-1.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eldorado has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .541. However, it's not like Cibola struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Eldorado's way against Cibola in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Eldorado made off with a 10-4 win. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
