Jena is 6-1 against Buckeye since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Jena Giants will head out on the road to face off against the Buckeye Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Jena will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Jena put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 60-7 victory over Caldwell Parish at home. Given Jena's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Caldwell Parish is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Buckeye pushed their score all the way to 49 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marksville. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (47), Buckeye still had to take the loss.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Adam Brodnax, who threw for 162 yards and three touchdowns. Jesse Standlee was in the mix as well, providing Buckeye with two touchdowns.
Jena's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.2 points per game. As for Buckeye, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Jena against Buckeye when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 42-13 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jena since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
