Softball Recap: Calvert Wins Going Away Against Lakota

While Calvert didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Lakota Raiders with a sharp 12-2 win on Wednesday. Considering the Senecas have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison King made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Calvert got a massive performance out of Ava Eilrich, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Rishty, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Calvert hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Calvert's record now sits at 7-1. As for Lakota, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvert will welcome South Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in the Senecas' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Trojans have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Lakota, they will host Fostoria at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
