Basha's Doc O'Connor recorded the longest rushing play in I Section I this season in his game against Perry last week. O'Connor scampered for 87 yards on the play and finished with 87 on the day as his team topped the Pumas.
Perry fell to Basha 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Zach Werlinger threw for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 14-16 with 1 interception.
Devin James made the biggest impact on defense this week as Highland bested Gilbert. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed 1 interception.
Werlinger put up the best numbers in passing as Bernie Busken's team defeated Preston Jones' team.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Bears' Werlinger and O'Connor have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Werlinger has thrown for 1,843 yards this season, while O'Connor has 36 catches for 579 yards. Ryan McCord from the Hawks leads the league in rushing with 491 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Hamilton and Basha. The Huskies enters the contest ranked fourth in the state, while the Bears ranks 12th.
Entering into this week's contest against Hamilton, Werlinger is short just 157 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
Highland made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,077 from 1,215. The improvement was largely due to a 49-14 victory over the Tigers last week.
