Baseball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Calhoun's 11th in Last 13 Outings

Calhoun came out on top against Masters on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Josh Mandel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, Jerve' Atsin was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Jordan Osorio was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Calhoun has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Masters, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calhoun will host Browning at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Masters, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Loyola at 4:30 p.m.
