The Granite Bay Grizzlies will square off against the Del Oro Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Granite Bay is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 29.5 points per game this season.
Granite Bay is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Oak Ridge just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 21-14 to the Trojans. The game marked the Grizzlies' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Isaiah Ene, who rushed for 89 yards and one score.
Even if they lost, Granite Bay's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, after only eight points in their last contest, Del Oro made sure to put some points up on the board against Whitney on Friday. The Golden Eagles took their matchup with ease, bagging a 49-21 win over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won four games by 25 points or more so far this season.
Del Oro had a senior duo take command as Brock Sherman rushed for 156 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 carries and Nolen Sauve threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Those 156 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Sherman. Landen Parry did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 98 receiving yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Del Oro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 239 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
Granite Bay's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Del Oro, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Granite Bay has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 222.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Del Oro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 154 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Granite Bay beat Del Oro 24-14 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
