The Heritage Christian Eagles waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 73-62 victory over Holyoke. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Heritage Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi Hermsen, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Hermsen pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Raul Bertinato, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Wyatt Sprague and Cash Weber certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Sprague scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Weber scored 15 points along with seven assists. Bryson Dirks was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five steals.
Holyoke struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Heritage Christian pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Heritage Christian pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Holyoke, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Heritage Christian will head out on the road to face off against Clear Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Heritage Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matches. As for Holyoke, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Merino at 4:00 a.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Holyoke focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Saturday.
