Queensbury has gone a perfect 7-0 against Amsterdam recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Queensbury is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Queensbury is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Averill Park just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 11-4 to the Warriors. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this contest were averaging 3.18 runs allowed.
Ava Cook was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Blanchard, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Amsterdam came out on top against Mayfield on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fourth inning. The Rams put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-2 victory.
Iliannis Aleman-Rivera tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Brielle Winn and Ellie Tirado did most of the damage at the plate: Winn went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles, while Tirado went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Winn a new career-high. Allie Keller also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Amsterdam kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 12.
Amsterdam is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Queensbury, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 8-3.
Amsterdam's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Queensbury has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Amsterdam, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Queensbury's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
Queensbury got the 'W' in their previous meeting on April 6th against Amsterdam by a conclusive 25-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
