There's no place like home for the Mater Academy Charter Lions, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road back in December of 2023. They put the hurt on Divine Savior Academy with a sharp 46-21 win on Tuesday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-11.
Mater Academy Charter found their leader in underclassman Yakeisha Shillingford, who scored 23 points along with five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shillingford has scored at least a third of Mater Academy Charter's points. Another player making a difference was Emily Avila, who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals.
Despite the loss, Divine Savior Academy still got an impressive performance from Sofia Mueller, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Mater Academy Charter's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Divine Savior Academy, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mater Academy Charter will face off against iMater Charter at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. IMater Charter is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Divine Savior Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Ransom Everglades at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ransom Everglades has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
